Lodge

Entrance to Sain Ka'an Park
Pesca Maya (Mayan Fishing) is a pleasant beach front lodge located in the heart of the Sian Ka'an ("where the sky is born") Biosphere Reserve ninety miles south of Cancun. The prolific fishery of Ascension Bay is just a few miles to the south and the legendary flats of Boca Paila are just a few miles to the north.

The lodge is located on a palm tree studded site at Chen Chomac (For Foxes only) and is situated on the most beautiful beach in the Punta Allen area. Directly in front of the lodge you will find powder white beaches protected from the aquamarine waters of the Caribbean Sea by one of the most beautiful barrier reefs in the world located less than one hundred yards offshore.

When you arrive in Cancun you will be greeted by Rogelio Velasco, a highly intelligent, gracious, and knowledgeable Mexican Gentleman. Rogelio will help you get organized and see to it that you are safely on you way in the spacious Suburban wagons which will take you to the lodge.

Bar
The other partner in this operation and your host at the lodge is Brian Jones, a Englishman who has lived in the area for the past twenty years. Brian posses the quintessential British charm and wit which becomes apparent almost immediately. We found Brian to have that rare combination of grace, confidence, humor, and knowledge which are the essence of a fine host anywhere in the world.

We have learned that when one finds themselves far from home and in unfamiliar surroundings, it is men like these that become instant friends. This is an important factor in planning a trip as one can relax and enjoy the pleasures while visiting a foreign land.

The native guides are of Mayan decent and are from the nearby town of Punta Allen. This years group of guides are very impressive and are by far the BEST you will find in Punta Allen. All the guides have years of fly fishing experience and good knowledge of the area.

You will fish primarily in Ascension Bay which we consider the permit capital of the word. On those days when it is too windy to venture out into the Bay you can fish "the Rio" located directly behind the barrier Island where the lodge is located or you can head north to Boca Palia and the Capechen lagoons. The locally made boats provide plenty of room for fishing.

Eight beach front palapas provide comfortable accommodations in a beautiful setting. Each palapa has tile floors, masonry walls, a private tiled bath with hot and cold water, and palm thatched roof. Every morning you can watch the sunrise from your cozy bed if your not already out surf casting on the beach at your doorstep.

The lodge's activities center around a large palapa overlooking the Caribbean Sea. It is here where the lodge's delicious meals are served. This social area is where tales are told and plans are made. There is also quite a bit of activity around the bar and the fly tying area within the palapa.

Non-fishing activities include sunbathing, snorkeling in very protected waters, bird watching, and for those interested there are day trips available by boat to the ancient Mayan ruins of Chun Ya'ax Che (Chun Yas Chay). On your way to or from the lodge you will have the opportunity to stop at the Mayan ruins at Tulum which is one of the major Mayan sites in the Yucatan peninsular.
