Andros Island Bahamas is the largest and least inhabited island of the 700 islands of the Bahamas. Andros is known as the bonefish capital of the world. It is approximately one hundred and eight miles long by forty miles wide. The third largest Barrier Reef in the world runs along the entire length of the eastern coast of Andros. The reef is one hundred forty miles from north to south, and the outer edge drops off steeply to depths more than six thousand feet deep.
The north and west side of Andros contain hundreds of square miles of productive bonefish territory, a labyrinth of creeks, bays and mangrove studded flats that penetrate Andros Island. Nowhere else in the world are there so many accessible flats with such great numbers of bonefish. In addition to bonefish, barracuda, sharks, tarpon, and permit, you will find an assortment of species including grouper and snapper available on the coral reef.
South Andros has built a reputation over the years as being the location for “Giant” bonefish. Names like Grassy Creek, Deep Creek, Little Creek, Water Cays and the Curley Cut Cays are linked to sight fishing for some of the world’s biggest bonefish. The southeastern tip of Andros is surrounded by pristine flats teeming with unpressured bonefish.
