Pesca Maya (Mayan Fishing) is a pleasant beach front lodge located in the heart of the Sian Ka'an ("where the sky is born") Biosphere Reserve ninety miles south of Cancun.

The prolific fishery of Ascension Bay is just a few miles to the south and the legendary flats of Boca Paila are just a few miles to the north. The entire area offers some of the Caribbean's greatest flats fishing for bonefish, permit, tarpon and snook. Other great saltwater species like jacks, snappers and barracudas are found here as well.

The lodge is located on a palm tree studded site at Chen Chomac (For Foxes only) and is situated on the most beautiful beach in the Punta Allen area. Directly in front of the lodge you will find powder white beaches protected from the aquamarine waters of the Caribbean Sea by one of the most beautiful barrier reefs in the world located less than one hundred yards offshore. On the western side or back side is "El Rio" (the river) which is an inland waterway consisting of mangrove flats, mangrove islands and channels.

When you arrive in Cancun you will greeted by a Pesca Maya representative and occasionally you may be greeted by the owner of Pesca Maya, Mr. Rogelio Velasco, a highly intelligent, gracious, and knowledgeable Mexican Gentleman. Rogelio or one of his assistants will help you get organized and see to it that you are safely on you way in a spacious Suburban wagon or van which will take you to the lodge.

Pesca Maya Bar
Your host at the lodge is Noe. We found Noe to have that rare combination of grace and knowledge which are the essence of a fine host anywhere in the world.

The native guides are of Mayan decent and are from the nearby town of Punta Allen. This years group of guides are very impressive and are by far the BEST you will find in Punta Allen. All the guides have years of fly fishing experience and good knowledge of the area.

Room at Pesca Maya
You will fish primarily in Ascension Bay which we consider the permit capital of the word. On those days when it is too windy to venture out into the Bay you can fish "the Rio" located directly behind the barrier Island where the lodge is located or you can head north to Boca Palia and the Capechen lagoons. The locally made boats provide plenty of room for fishing.

Pesca Maya can comfortably accomodate up to 20 anglers in the lodge. There are 10 rooms in three buildings, all with A/C and private bathroom with walk-in showers, most with oceanview. The three building consist of; the Seaclusion Villa has 4 rooms, the Robinson House has 3 rooms, and the Main lodge (beach) has 3 rooms. Every morning you can watch the sunrise from your door step if your not already out surf casting on the beach.
