Room Interior at El Pescador

Snuggled in the crystal clear waters of the western Caribbean at the base of the Yucatan peninsula, just off the coast of Belize is the beautiful island of Ambergris Cay.

Conveniently located just outside of the small town of San Pedro is El Pescador Lodge. Here you will find coconut palms, endless mangrove islands, deep mangrove creeks, pristine white beaches, clear water, and a barrier reef which harbors an abundance of sea life and healthy coral.

San Pedro is an alluring village with English-speaking inhabitants. There are no buildings taller than a palm tree. The Belizeans on the island are a happy, content people, and the atmosphere is delightful.

The unspoiled natural beauty abounds at El Pescador. The secluded lodge is delicately placed between a lush tropical jungle and the turquoise sea and just fifteen minutes by boat from San Pedro. The well-maintained colonial style building is clean and comfortable and features a long verandah overlooking an immaculate coconut palm shaded beach. Just offshore, breakers reveal the Belizean coral reef, a portion of the largest barrier reef system in the western hemisphere.

El Pescador Bar
The intimate well-stocked bar at El Pescador is the perfect place to swap stories and knock down a couple of native Belikin beers after a hard day of fishing. The delightful meals are served buffet style and consist of Caribbean, Creole, and American dishes. Native seafood is a specialty. Hearty eaters will be satisfied with generous portions and request for seconds will be happily met. Breakfast is a-la-cart and a cooler lunch is provided for the angler.

At El Pescador, Spanish for The Fisherman, there are many species to look for on the flats, coral reef, and offshore. The staff of English-speaking guides caters to all types of anglers. Bonefish are common and there are permit, but tarpon provide the main entertainment. They are plentiful and they come in all sizes. The area from the Belizean mainland out to Ambergris Cay features classic tarpon fishing on vast mangrove studded flats. For smaller tarpon and on windy days there are the large lagoons of Santa Cruz, Bacalar Chico, Cantena, and numerous smaller lagoons. Non-anglers can enjoy sailing, snorkeling, and diving in one of the finest areas in the world.
