The Cayman Islands are located in the western Caribbean, 480 miles south of Miami. The Cayman Islands are about a 70 minute direct flight from Miami on a 737 jet. The island country consists of Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac and Little Cayman, which lies approximately 89 miles east-northeast of Grand Cayman. Little Cayman, only 10 miles long and a mile wide, is relatively flat, reaching a maximum elevation of 40 ft. The Southern Cross Club is located on Little Cayman Island. The Southern Cross Club was founded in 1958 when Little Cayman boasted a population of just 12. Now with a bustling population of about 100, Little Cayman continues to be one of the least developed tropical islands in the western hemisphere. If you dream of escaping to a place with world class diving, fishing and just plain relaxing, few places in the world possess the charm, comfort and hospitality of the Southern Cross Club. The bonefish around Little Cayman average 3-6 lbs. One of the best fishing holes is the shallow areas of South Hole Sound near Owen Island which almost directly in front of the lodge. You can find bonefish in certain areas all around the island. the typical boat ride to the flats is less than ten minutes. A short distance from the lodge there is an inland tarpon lake, which holds land-locked tarpon from 10 to 20 pounds. They were probably pushed in there by a hurricane many years ago. The tarpon are short but have a large girth for their size and are obviously stunted because of the environment, but they still fight like crazy. Ten Caribbean style bungalows and several deluxe beachfront bungalows with one "stand alone" private honeymoon bungalow are located on the white sandy beach at water's edge. The seaside rooms are large and well appointed. There is a central lodge with a dining area, living room, and bar. There is an abundance of staff. The food is excellent. The service is good. Breakfasts and lunches are typically served buffet style with many items to choose from. Most dinners are served to you by a waitstaff in the dining room and are a leisurly 3 course affair. Bar snacks such as conch fritters, "island wings" and others are always on hand at happy hour.
