About Isla Blanca Yucatan
Isla Blanca Yucatan (White Island), a jewel in Mexican State of Quintana Roo, is a sandy barrier island and is distinguished by the fine, white sand that gives its name. There are few places in close proximity to Cancun with the diversity of nature that is available at Isla Blanca.
Actually, Isla Blanca is one part of the larger Chakmochuk lagoon system. Just a short distance of about 8 miles from the City Center of Cancun, the unspoiled lagoon stretches more than 12 miles to the north bordered by the Chakmochuk coastal lagoon on the west and the Isla Contoy reserve and the Caribbean reef on the east and Holbox to the north.
The fishery at Isla Blanca Yucatan is an amazingly diverse environment. The mangrove estuaries, channels, wide open flats, and natural protections of the barrier islands allow the fly angler plenty of opportunity for the most sought after Caribbean flats species throughout the year including Permit, juvenile Tarpon, Snook and a few Bonefish.
Having visited the Yucatan peninsula thirty times in the past twenty-one years, I can tell you that this is one of the Yucatan’s most under-rated fisheries.
Lodging
If you are going use the package pricing, you will stay at Sea Adventure Hotel, which will be just fine for most anglers. This all-inclusive hotel is located on a white-sand beach facing the Caribbean. The Sea Adventure hotel is close to Isla Blanca, so you will be virtually just minutes from the launch site
An Isla Blanca Yucatan representative will meet you bright in early the morning of your trip and drive you the short distance to the launching area. You will normally return to the dock between 3 and 4 in the afternoon. Isla Blanca Yucatan is a great place to fish for a full week or just a day trip while passing through the area.
Fishing
Isla Blanca Yucatan fishing provides sturdy 18 foot pangas with a spacious front casting deck and ample rod storage. The guides, which each have their own little know fishing spots, know the area very well and have been fishing here for many years. Almost all fishing is done from the boat as wading flats are scarce.
Because of the pristine nature and the lack of development in the area, Isla Blanca offers fishing similar to the world famous flats of Ascension Bay and Espiritu Santo Bay located to the south which are protected as part of the Sian Ka’an reserve. That means little pressure and lots of action. Of course like all fisheries, Isla Blanca is weather dependent. The prime months to fish Isla Blanca are April through November. Between November and March, fishing can be very good. However, that is the time of the year where the cold fronts arrive which can make it tough on some days.
Guide trips only are $425.00 for a full day and include round-trip transportation to the fishing boat from the Cancun hotel zone, guided fishing, fishing license, non-alcoholic beverages, water and lunch on the boat for up to two anglers per boat.
