About the Delphi Club Bahamas

About thirty minutes from Marsh Harbour International Airport on Abaco’s east coast, you will find an elegant colonial-style plantation. A great house set on the edge of sand ridge 50 feet above the sea overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and a beautiful soft sandy beach. The lodge sets in the natural island surroundings, and landscaped with hundreds of plants, including sapodilla, mango, sugar apple, coco plum, bougainvillea, and sea grape.

The Delphi Club Bahamas, a small luxury guest house and fishing lodge, is a great destination for those travelling with non-fishing companions.

Lodging

Well-designed yet informal, this eight bedroom tropical hideaway has very comfortable appointments. Inside you will find eight comfortable bedrooms, some with king sized beds and some with queen sized twin beds all overlooking the ocean. All bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms and showers.

The Great Room at the center of the house can seat 20 for dinner with ease plus lots of room to spare for relaxing. An honesty bar, abundant comfortable seating and stunning views from its many glass doors. With fine antiques and an overhead gallery full of fishing paraphernalia, the Great Room is full of character and atmosphere.

On the exterior, you will find large wrap-around verandas with views of the landscaped gardens, infinity pool and of course the ocean.

The Great Room at the center of the house features an enormous dining table (which can seat over twenty people), a discreet honesty bar, abundant comfortable seating and stunning views from its many glass doors. With fine antique furnishings, an overhead gallery full of fishing gear, an eclectic library; the Great Room is full of charm and atmosphere.

The friendly household staff is reliable and discreet. The Club’s scrumptious food is some of the best in the Bahamas; fresh and delicious, making optimal use of local ingredients. And the Lodge has an exceptional wine list that is very fairly priced.

World Class Bahamas Bonefishing

In the labyrinth of creeks that penetrate Great Abaco Island, lays treasure. Not the ghost of pirates, but the elusive grey ghost, the bonefish. The area is perfect for bonefish and it is common to see vast schools of the fish tailing.

This fishing lodge is built at Rolling Harbour near Crossing Rocks. There are two areas to fish: The first is Cherokee Sound, which is on the east side of the island and only a short ride from Delphi Lodge. There are numerous blue holes in Cherokee sound which attract a multitude of species, including mutton snapper and barracuda.

The second and largest area is the Marls, located on the west side of the island. It is a vast mangrove studded flat that extends all the way to the east end of the Grand Bahama Island and contains hundreds of square miles of rarely fished territory. The creeks are literally littered with bonefish holes. The size of the nearly translucent bonefish average about three to five pounds, and there are a few permit there as well, but consider permit a bonus if encountered. This lodge provides the best access to the central part of the Marls and Cherokee Sound.

The Delphi Club Bahamas uses dependable Dolphin 16ft skiffs which have padded seats, a leaning bar on the casting platform and dry storage lockers, as well as radios and GPS Locators.

Some of the bonefishing guides are from the nearby settlement of Cherokee and all are native born and know the local water like the back of their hands.

The great majority of the fishing is from boats, but there may be opportunities for wading, especially at Cherokee Sound. Most of the fishing, however, is normally on the west side of Abaco in the famous Marls of Abaco.

If you forget part of your tackle, don’t worry, the Delphi Club Bahamas has a large assortment of tackle and a huge selection of flies.

Other Activities

The Delphi Club Bahamas is an excellent option for both anglers and non-angling spouse and family. For the non-fisher here are some easy things to do:

Relax, read a book and recharge at Delphi Lodge’s refreshing pool with the convenience of being close to your room.

Bird Watching – Bring your binoculars and enjoy the outstanding variety of birds to be found on Great Abaco and the surrounding islands. The Abaco Islands are rich with bird life and several areas have been set aside as preserves. The interior of the island is lush with Bahamian pine trees and here you will find the habitat of the Abaco parrot.

Delphi Lodge is only 30 minutes away from Marsh Harbour, which has many shops, restaurants and marinas.

Day Trips for the More Adventuresome

Beaches – The Abaco’s have some of the finest beaches in the world, most of them completely deserted. Go to one of the rental boat companies in Marsh Harbour and captain yourself across. While you’re there, grab your snorkel gear and explore the pristine world class elkhorn and staghorn reefs just off the Beaches or scuba and discover the many offshore wrecks and caverns.

Take the ferry from Marsh Harbour and spend the day Nippers Beach Bar & Grill on Great Guana Cay. Nipper’s is open 364 days a year. Stop by for the music and fun, mix with the locals, tourists and cruisers. Everyone’s here but there’s plenty of space to chill at Nipper’s, too.

Ride a 20 minute ferry from Marsh Harbour and spend the day at Hope on beautiful Elbow Cay. Rent a cart and explore the island. There are lots of things to do to keep you busy. Be sure to visit the famous red and white striped Elbow Reef Lighthouse; probably the most recognizable landmark in Abaco.

Take the ferry from Marsh Harbour and spend the day at Man-O-War Cay. Watch how the English Loyalist descendants still build boats by hand, walk around town, take a stroll on the beach or rent a golf cart and explore. Man-O-War is less touristy than the other islands. Do you enjoy snorkeling? Visit Fowl Cay underwater park – A national underwater sea park.

Location and Getting to Delphi Club Bahamas

The Abacos are a 130 mile crescent shaped string of Bahamian islands located approximately 200 miles east of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and 75 miles northeast of Nassau Bahamas. With nearly 50 square miles of landmass, Abaco is the second largest island in the Bahamas.

Abaco Island has direct flights from Florida to Marsh Harbour. It is also possible to fly via Nassau; however a direct flight from Florida is by far the easiest.
