A Fly-Fishing Paradise open November to April
One of the most far-flung inhabited islands in the Seychelles, the atoll is located 665 miles southwest of Mahé and is an approximately three-hour flight from Mahé via Alphonse.
The Astove Atoll is approximately 3.7 miles north to south and 2 ½ miles east to west, and is surrounded by coral reefs with steep vertical drop-offs on the flats’ perimeter, allowing predators easy access.
Described as staring down into an underwater Grand Canyon, the Astove Wall consists of large turtle grass and sand flats and the reef dropping virtually straight down from ankle-deep water to well over a half -mile in depth. This atoll, surrounded by sheer drop-offs, makes the fishing experience here unique.
The interior of the atoll contains a large, shallow lagoon that offers protection for both juvenile and trophy-size bonefish and Indo-Pacific permit. There is one entrance to the lagoon called the called Gueule Bras Channel where predatory fish, like giant trevally, wait in ambush for an easy meal as the tide changes.
It is said that the Astove Atoll is home to the Biggest Flats Caught Giant Trevally’s. In addition to the big GTs, the atoll offers numerous opportunities for bonefish, permit, bluefin trevally, triggerfish, and milkfish.
Offshore fishing starts just yards from the edge of the drop off and boast a healthy population of, tuna, wahoo, barracuda and sailfish.
